Ridgecrest Halloween Party, hosted by Hall Council

Description: This is Hall Council’s first program at Ridgecrest! There will be free pizza and candy, caramel apples, pumpkin decorating, a costume contest, and prizes for best male and female costumes and best pumpkin.

Keeping herself and her church together is near impossible as she struggles with feelings for this wicked man and her wayward son. James Baldwins powerful play about the double-edged sword of righteousness is transformed into a rousing, emotional musical of faith and redemption, with a spine-tingling contemporary Gospel score.

Description (taken from UA master calendar): This is the annual Student Health Fair, with a holiday flare: Health is not Scary! Students will have the opportunity to get a chair massage, participate in dance demonstrations, receive make-up tips, get a flu shot, be creative in crafts, make their own aromatherapy bath salts, get financial tips, learn about safety hazards, and much more. Costumes welcome!

UA-RED (Recruitment of Educators Day)

Description (taken from UA master calendar): Who Can Teach? You Can! All Majors interested in teaching should make plans to attend. Take this opportunity to visit with educators from across the country. Dress is business attire. Bring your résumé and Student ID. Portfolio is optional. Student Check-in will be in front of Ferguson Theater. Check-in no later than 8:30am. Announcements will be made in the theater beginning at 8:45am. Then you will line up according to the order that you checked in to sign up for interviews from 9am - 10am. Interviews will be conducted from 10:00am - 3:00pm.

Communication Career Fair
Date: Friday, Nov. 2

Description (taken from UA master calendar): The 12th annual Communication Career Fair, one of the longest-running campus job fairs for the communication industry, is scheduled for Friday, November 2, 2007 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Ferguson Ballroom in Ferguson Center on The University of Alabama campus. The career fair is hosted by the Student Executive Council of the College of Communication and Information Sciences and is designed to help students find internships and jobs. This year, two special workshops are scheduled during the Communication Career Fair. The Sports Communication Workshop, scheduled for 11 a.m. - noon in the Heritage Room, will feature a panel of professionals working in various aspects of the field: reporting, announcing, marketing and public relations. The Media Sales Workshop, scheduled for 2 p.m. - 3 p.m., will feature a panel of professionals working media sales and management.

The Struggle fro Chicano Rights, presented by Carlos Montes

Description (taken from UA events calendar): Carlos Montes is a veteran Chicano activist and a leader of the immigrant rights movement. He is one of the founders and former Minister of Information of the Brown Berets National Office in East Los Angeles from 1967 to 1970, a group that in the late 1960s and early 1970s emerged as one of the most powerful and militant organizations in the Chicano liberation movement. Montes has traveled from Los Angeles to speak from his experiences about the history of Chicano rights and the immigrants rights.

Voices from Darfur
Date: Thursday, Oct. 25

Location: Ferguson Theatre
Description(taken from University Programs Web site): This is a national speaking tour featuring Darfuri refugees, and is designed to increase awareness about the humanitarian crisis in Darfur and call the public to action through exposure to first-hand testimonials from survivors. The program will begin with a moving documentary that details the struggle that is occurring in the Darfur region, including graphic footage that the American media isn’t likely to show. This will be followed by personal accounts of their stories by the refugees. Finally, we’ll have an interactive question and answer session in which the guest speakers will answer any inquiries the audience has.
